Tycoon-ism: Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire. – William Butler Yeats
It would be presumptuous to consider one learned only by finishing a degree. They had it right when they called the end of a school grade a “commencement” or graduation. For by realizing that education is not a end in itself, we begin to understand that the reason for all education, formal or informal, is to prepare us for another term of learning. It is not a finish line but the start of another race, not a full cup but one cup full of an infinite number of empty ones you need to fill. Indeed, life is full of things to know, understand, test, and validate. Once you’ve caught on to that integral human trait which is curiosity, you will no longer need the prodding of your mentors to push you to learn, you will be your own slave master. And no one, except yourself, can hold you back.

Great post, I just bookmarked it on Digg.
