Terrific Tuesday

Tycoon-ism: "Whoever is happy will make others happy too. He who has courage and faith will never perish in misery." - Anne Frank

There was a story about post war Germany during the cold war. This happened when there was a still a Berlin wall. It is important to note that the wall was put up to stop the exodus of the Germans to the Allied controlled area. And so this wall represented the ideological division between post war Communism and Western democracy. In this story, there was an apparent garbage disposal problem o the East side. Some of their more enterprising officials started dumping their garbage on the other side of the wall to the West side. The West side, not to be outdone, retaliated swiftly and decisively. And so on the morning after the garbage was dumped the East side found on their side of the wall all sorts of canned goods and items, neatly stacked, with the message: “You share only what you have.” It is heartwarming to know that even at such an unprovoked attack, we can still muster the courage to share out the goodness of our hearts. Future Friday

Tycoon-ism: "Every tomorrow has two handles. We can take hold of it with the handle of anxiety or the handle of faith." - Henry Ward Beecher

In almost all religious beliefs, and more emphasized in Christianity, worrying is a form of sin. But in a world where a state of constancy is never a sure thing, and change is, it is not surprising that we all tend to wonder how things will be in the future. We put up hedge funds and buy insurance if only appease our worrisome nature. But how can we stop worrying? If we look closely at our anxiety, we can figure that it only applies when we think of it as bigger than we are. After all, why would we worry about something that we can handle? So worrying becomes a sin only because we tend to think of our problems as bigger than God. Faith steps in as a means to cut this burden of anxiety from us.  When we let go of the future, believing by faith that although we cannot control it but Someone higher than us can, we  get the full benefits of the blessings of today.

Terrific Tuesday

Tycoon-ism: “You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt, as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear, as young as your hope, as old as your despair.” - Paul H. Duhn

There are certain perks as we reach a certain age. Being young we can always claim impatience and so go on committing many mistakes as we learn patience. Being old we can claim calmness and an air of astuteness and are given the chance to listen to more information before we make our decisions. But whatever age you are in right now you had better learn to use every excuse you are entitled to before they are taken from you.

Enjoy your youth, when your vigor and stamina can carry you towards your dreams. Yet always remember that someday you too shall be supplanted by a younger generation. This is not to discourage but instead to give you a broader perspective as you make your decisions. But as with power, along with age comes responsibility. Being older you now hold the torch that will light the path of younger generations. Your actions will be scrutinized closely by the young if only to confirm their ideas.

Tycoon-ism: Let us not bankrupt our todays by paying interest on the regrets of yesterday and by borrowing in advance the troubles of tomorrow. - Ralph W. Sockman

Man is blessed and equally cursed with an acute perception of time. He can discern his past, present and future more than any other creature with intelligence since he can live only for a short while here on earth. Each of these aspects of time has their uses.

Memories of the past are there to remind us of what has transpired in order for us not to commit the same mistakes again today. Our mind also comprehends that there is always a tomorrow, to teach us that what we have now, be it pain or pleasure, will not last. But the most important is the present. Here is where we live our lives. Here is the foundation of our future. It is a sad life that one lives if he lets himself be imprisoned by his past or by his fears of what may happen tomorrow for he will always look past the beauty of today and pretend like it was yesterday or let his fear of tomorrow blind him. It takes a lot of courage to let go of the past and leave the future to our Creator but in order for man to achieve his full potential, he must learn to live for today, accepting by faith that whatever happened in the past or whatever may happen in the future, he has God at his side and that is enough.
